Soundway Records' new Afro-funk band KonKoma to play debut show at London's Rich Mix

Soundway Records

Soundway Records' new signing, the London based Afro-funk band KonKoma, will be making their debut at London's Rich Mix as part of a beefy tropical line-up bought to you by Soundway, Strut, Sofrito and the Shrine and hosted by the Shrine’s Rita Ray (BBC World Service) and Max Reinhardt (Late Junction BBC Radio 3). KonKoma will be playing alongside Ghanaian Pax Nicholas and their dancefloor pulverising DJs, Afrofunk warriors Yaaba Funk, who cancelled everything in their diaries to join the party, and the Ghanaian Nu-Wave Fokn Bois (Wanlov the Kubolor & M3nsa).

This heavyweight line-up has come together in aid of two heavyweight figures of the World music scene who have both faced recent individual hardships. Musicologist, musician and professor at University of Accra, Prof John Collins had his life swept away by floods in Ghana last autumn and at roughly the same time legendary world music journalist Jon Lusk (Rough Guide, fRoots, Songlines, BBC Online etc)  suffered a major stroke - this night is a benefit for them.
