Civil Music announced as new label partner

Civil Music announced as new label partner Image

Kartel are pleased to announce a new label partnership with London-based dance/electronica label Civil Music. Championed by tastemakers including Resident Advisor, XLR8R & Gilles Peterson and featuring ground-breaking and much lauded acts including Débruit, Drums Of Death, Om Unit, Reso & Darling Farah, the label is fast becoming known at the vanguard of the scene for intricate, immersive and wholly distinctive electronic music.

Our first Civil Music releases offer two debut full-lengths: the Afro-infused, technology-bending polyrhythms of France’s beatmaster extraordinaire, Débruit; and a first release from native Detroiter and emergent go-to producer, Darling Farah, currently locking clubland down worldwide with a unique blend of electro distortion and techno minimalism.

Débruit has pedigree. A graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, a string of EPs including the sell out Let’s Post Funk 3D EP featuring Om’Mas Keith (….of Sa-RA and P Diddy) and the much hyped “Spatio Temporel Ep” feat the unmistakeable Nigeria What? has seen his Beat Konducta status cemented. His Music is a no holds barred assault through dark Congolese sound systems, downtown L.A. block parties gone wrong, haze filled Kingston recording studios and freaky Tunisian backstreet souks; all powered by a fat hip hop engine…

Débruit's debut album - 'From The Horizon' - is a culmination of 3 years work, collecting field recordings, delving into restricted archives, sampling lost African VHS and reinterpreting discovered African melodies and rhythms, for synths and drum machines.

'Body' is the debut long player from 20 year old Darling Farah. Born in Detroit before relocating to the United Arab Emirates he is now in London, where this innovative debut was written. Deep, sophisticated and expertly reduced 'Body' showcases an artist striding forward at a rare pace, able to create almost overwhelming emotional dynamics, his is a world of daring introversion, increased possibilities and resistance to classification. Traversing the Techno landscape with beautiful continuity the album navigates from beatless ambience, pulsing rhythms and machinist teutonics through dancefloor beats and cyclic 4/4 to Detroit soul and dub techno. Cohesive and effortless it will undoubtedly solidify the hype around it's precociously talented producer.
